Odd Threads

This site is one of the outcomes of a research project about children’s experiences in primary school, called

Odd: feeling different in the world of education.

Though we will share stories and fragments from the project, this site does not aim to give an overview of the whole project. This can be found on the Manchester Metropolitan University website here.

Rather, this is a collection of 'threads', the fraying ends of which are offered to you to tie into your experiences and practices - as a parent, an educator, a researcher or anyone else who works with children and young people.

Navigating the site

Click an image below to enter one of our four project Threads.

For each Thread there is:

  • A brief introduction to 2-3 methods used in our project, with thoughts from our team

  • An example of how we shared this method with others

  • One or more Provocations that might include things to listen to, watch, or activities to try out alone or together with others

Our interactive Provocations have been developed from the project Threads, so it is useful to follow the links from those into the activities.

Both the Threads and Provocations folders are navigable via the menu along the top and bottom of the site.
